Yacht charter Balearic Islands

Yacht charter Balearic Islands

Your sailing trip in the Balearic Islands

Take advantage of the good flight connections to Palma de Mallorca and start your yacht charter in the Balearic Islands in the port of Palma. The old town of Palma is well worth seeing and can be reached on foot. It offers a wide range of cultural sights, cafes, bars, restaurants and shopping opportunities.
The perfect destination for your yacht charter: Mallorca shows its most beautiful side from the water. The largest of the Balearic Islands offers its tourists much more than just a party atmosphere and nightlife. In addition to its idyllic mainland, it convinces above all with its beautiful coastline, its small and quiet villages and its unique history. Experience pure nature with a yacht charter in Mallorca. On the more than 300 nm long coastline you will find numerous places worth seeing that want to be explored. Discover attractive bays, white beaches and the impressive nature of the Balearic Islands when you go ashore.
With a one-week sailing trip you can explore the south and south-east coast of the island in a relaxed manner. There are many ports, marinas, sandy beaches and bays / calas. Calas are cuttings in the coast that are surrounded by rugged cliffs and mostly have beautiful beaches. A highlight of this region is also the Cabrera archipelago, which has been a national park since 1991. In order to be able to visit the protected bay of Puerto de Cabrera, you must apply for a permit before your trip. Due to nature conservation, only a limited number of boats are allowed to moor at buoys and stay overnight here. It is particularly romantic to spend a night here when the moon is full.

For a circumnavigation of Mallorca, that is about 180 nm, you should plan two weeks. This is a good way to add a detour to Menorca. This Balearic island is the least populated and is considered the most pristine island in the Balearic Islands. From Mallorca, mostly from the port of Pollensa, one drives to Menorca Ciutadella, a historic port with a special charm. It is also possible to start your trip directly from the Marina Mahon, but the journey is a little more complicated in terms of flight technology.

Ibiza

Ibiza is known as a party and lifestyle mile. Here you can rent your yacht for the round trip planned in the Balearic Islands in the Marina San Antonio. Sail around the southern tip of the islands to Ibiza Town and immerse yourself in the legendary nightlife. Or stroll through the narrow streets of the fortified upper town of Dalt Villa, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. From the walls of the fortress you have a wonderful panoramic view over the strait between Ibiza and Formentera. Ibiza offers the sailor three marinas, various bays / calas and beautiful sandy beaches.
Ibiza is known for its party and lifestyle scene. Here you start your charter yacht in the Marina San Antonio, the only marina in western Ibiza. There are other marinas in Ibiza Town and Santa Eulària. San Antonio is where you'll find the legendary Café del Mar where you can sip your sundowner cocktail and chill before setting off to sea. From here, sail along the coast to Ibiza Town. You can go to different calas / bays, such as Cala Bassa, Cala Compte, Cala Horts with a view of Isla Vedra. Almost all of these calas invite you to swim and have beach bars or a restaurant.

In Ibiza Town you can plunge into the legendary nightlife. This city also has a lot to offer culturally and historically: for example, a very well-preserved fortress that has withstood many pirate attacks in the past. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town Dalt Villa, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. From the walls of the fortress you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view over the strait between Ibiza and Formentera.

You want to go around Ibiza - no problem. Set sail and set course for Santa Eulària, Isla Tagomago (a private island, but with a public beach bar), on to Cala San Vincente, Cala Portinatx, Cala Portinat, Port San Miguel, Islas Margaritas and Cala Salada. From here it is not far to your yacht charter base in San Antonio.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Ibiza, take a course from Ibiza Town or Ensenada de la Canal at the southern tip of Ibiza to Formentera, the northern tip of which is only about 10 nm away. Formentera is a unique island in terms of landscape. Their long, shallow sandy beaches with clear, turquoise blue water invite you to relax, swim and snorkel. First you will be walking down the horseshoe-shaped bay of Puerto del Espalmador, where you can anchor on a buoy.

We continue to the elongated bay of Ses Illetes, with perhaps the most beautiful beach on the northern tip of the island, where you will also find several restaurants. Further south there is the Cala Sahona and in the east the Ensenada de Tramonta. Here you can anchor at the fishing village of Es Caló

Formentera

Menorca has a coastline of 216 kilometers. The coast of Sant Lluís, at the end of the island, is the easternmost point in Spain where the sun rises first. The island is divided into two different halves. The north has a jagged, rough coast and barren vegetation, many small, offshore islands and beaches with dark reddish sand. To the south, Menorca's coast is flat with gentle rocks, gorges and white sandy beaches framed by pine forests. The highest point on the island is Monte Toro with 357 meters.

You start your yacht charter in the Marina Mahón near the island's capital. If you want to go around the entire island, this is about 80 nm. It should be noted here that the north coast of the island is often exposed to the mistral and the anchorages usually do not offer good protection from this wind.

If the wind is favorable, set course north and sail to Isla Colom, where you can moor to anchor buoys. We continue over the anchor bays of Cala Addaya, a fjord-like natural harbor, Cala Arenal de Castell and Cala Olla. Then to Cala Fornells, a pretty fishing village known for its local lobster and the Calderata de Langosta (stew with lobster). Via Cala Pregonda, Cala Argaryens, Menorca's dream bay par excellence, you get to Cala Morell, which is only 10 nm away from the former capital Ciutadella. Ciutadella has a cute, historic port and an old town that is well worth seeing. If you want to lie here, you should reserve your berth at least three days in advance: www.portsib.es. From Ciutadella you can, if you want and enough time, sail to Mallorca to the ports of Pollensa or Alcúdia. It is approx. 35 nm to the port of Pollensa.

You could do the route from Ciutadella to Mahón in a day's stage, but that would be a shame - on the south coast there is one beautiful dream bay after the next, such as B. the Cala de Son Saura, Cala Turqueta, Cala Macarella, Son Bou, Cala Porté and the Cala Covas, which is a popular night anchorage.

The last stop before your return to the yacht charter base in Mahón is Cala Binibeca with a sandy beach and a view of the Isla del Aire.

Formal Balearen

Depth and troughs on the coast of Mallorca

Unlike in other less exposed areas of the Mediterranean, the swell can be particularly high around the Balearic Islands. Due to the north wind Tramontana there are occasionally high and steep seas between March and June. Even when there is no wind, an old swell due to wind can occur.
In the Balearic Islands there are special changing winds throughout the year, which you should be aware of when chartering a yacht in Mallorca. Between March and June either the north wind Tramontana or the north-east wind Mistral prevail. In July and August, however, there are east to south-east winds. From September to October, Mistral and Tramontana dominate again. The winter, on the other hand, is mostly calm.
